If government is going to lock out workers, then they have to deliver a paycheck.

Turlock, CA: Dr. Ted Howze, candidate for the 10th Congressional District of California, announced his support for a temporary extension to the enhanced unemployment benefits. This announcement comes after House Democrats and Senate Republicans failed to reach a stimulus deal before adjourning last week.

“Congress has failed to deliver,” said Dr. Howze. “If they are going to continue shutting out workers and small business then they must extend unemployment benefits to workers. People should not be forced to choose between purchasing their prescription drugs, paying rent, or putting food on the family’s table.

“Workers and small business owners need certainty and some light at the end of the tunnel. This is another example of partisan games coming from D.C. politicians, and voters instead need representation that gets it done.”

The plan Dr. Howze supports includes a temporary extension of the $600 enhanced unemployment benefit until Congress delivers concrete national directives that provide a pathway to get workers back at work safely and responsibly. The federal government and leaders must also put pressure on California’s Employment Development Department which has been criticized for its lack of response and delays in delivering unemployment benefits to Californians.

USA Today reported that a cut at this time could result in a 44.2% monthly reduction to Californians receiving unemployment.
